Under the guiding thesis of ‘Conversion instead of new build’ EM2N activates a prominent corner site at Zurich’s Central, a vital transport hub, between Stampfenbach- and Weinbergstrasse through a reconfiguration of – among other interventions – the lift and stair core and the relocation of the main entrance. The building’s new envelope displays a full-height glass facade spanning almost two storeys and a rooftop terrace, united by a comprehensive Re-use strategy that reincorporates meticulously restored natural-stone elements from the 1972 facade. The transformation, rooted in EM2N’s award-winning 2020 study proposal, remains on track for completion in autumn 2027.
