EM2N’s project design for the new FOCUS communication centre at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, which won a first prize, has a representative character expressed by the powerful gesture of a generously sized roof that follows the topography and by indoor and outdoor spaces that can be used flexibly. As well as the solar cells that are mounted on the sloping roof and generate the energy required by the sustainable building, the materialisation of the building components aims at ensuring that a minimum of CO₂ is used and is stored in the building as far as possible.
